Inspiration
I am often asked what inspires me.
It is my surroundings, whether it is the countryside around me, the lighting in the cities, sun rises or sunsets, clouds with the sunshine behind it.
Travelling on the motorway is never boring.
Even the dullest day has some bright light or reflection.
Colour is everywhere.
There are so many dyed colourways available in the Corriedale range, that it is sometimes confusing to see a way forward.
Focus on something that catches your attention, take a photo, draw those colours with a crayon, felt tip pen or brush.
Keep the colours to an uneven number.
Keep the colourways to a minimum. Choose the colours that are nearest your inspiration.
Then play.
Hand spin or felt the fibres as they come.
Perhaps the dyed colours are too strong, then blend them together with a carding brush.
Or just play, pulling out the fibres in your hands until you obtain the shade you require.
Make a note of what you have done and then continue your project using carders.
Random use of the chosen fibres are an expression of freedom.
Escape, discover, unwind and most of all have fun -
